8/21 - Evening Post. Riding the roller-coaster
This is Steve putting in my two cents.
A day of lows and not-so-lows -- keeping it real here. Finding out that Justin had a seizure I had to go back to the ICU let's definitely not the way I was hoping to start my day. I called the high school to tell them that Justin was not going to be able to attend for an indeterminate amount of time. Props to AMES and their principal for the supportive attitude that they are taking. The not-as-lows -- we talked to the neurosurgeon and it was more good news/bad news. Justin had another MRI done late this morning it took some time to get the results back. On the brighter side there's been no type of stroke in the brain, although some news that we did not want to hear is that the infection made it deeper than the dura mater ("tough-mother" in Latin) layer and into the brain itself. Again neurosurgeon has been doing a great job and communicating things in a way that is accurate without being too alarming. The antibiotic regimen that they have will work in the brain as well. He is encouraged by Justin's physical health and age and says both working for him.
One of the issues right now working against Justin is he has low sodium - electrolytes and stuff like that - in his body. They have been working to get him to drink Gatorade but it is not making enough of an impact so they wanted to move to a feeding tube. This would have a couple of benefits number one things start getting food in his stomach which will help you number two they can be administering sodium through the feeding tube which is much better than trying to do it intravenously. Getting a feeding tube is not a fun experience for anybody the nurses or the patient. They were able to find out just how healthy and strong Justin is -- three (not petite) nurses and they still weren't able to get the feeding tube down from the nose to the stomach after three tries. The next step is they are going to sedate him somewhat to get him to relax so they can get that tube down there it is critically important to his health recovery.
We know that the Lord is with us and for us.
Your continued prayers are coveted, that we continue to experience His presence.
Thank you for the update. So glad AMES was supportive - honestly I wouldn’t expect anything less, they are awesome. Praying for your strength and peace through these challenging times.

ReplyDeleteHi Sparkles.
ReplyDeleteI missed you at school today. We’ve always had classes together where we could hangout and I was disappointed I didn’t see you because I thought maybe our schedules didn’t line up. And to who else would I get to watch soccer with? (in free periods only, don’t worry Ms. Fahrenkrog)
Unfortunately the reality is much worse than schedules that don’t correspond. Though I’m incredibly glad to see that you have a huge support system that’s is praying for you and many doctors that know their stuff taking good care of you at the hospital.
If at some point you are aloud to have visitors I would love to come say hi. We can talk about your future mountian bike plans and you can help me with my calc cause we know Ms. Strong’s class can be hard(maybe not for you but definitely for me :) ).
I miss you lots. You will recover, you are so strong.
Lots of hugs,
Lila
Hang in there as a family we are all thinking the best positive thoughts we can. Thank you for the updates and your strength and the strength of the family. Brett
